Equality & Human Rights Commission: how schools are monitoring, recording and analysing their use of restraint

Behaviour Strategies

The Equality and Human Rights Commission have carried out an inquiry to find out how schools in England and Wales are monitoring, recording and analysing their use of restraint.

The inquiry looked at primary, secondary and special needs schools in England and Wales. They gathered a range of evidence to help them understand:

  1. whether and how these schools are collecting, recording and using data on their use of restraint and restrictive interventions
  2. what schools can learn from places that routinely record, monitor and analyse this data and use it to make changes to their approach

Behaviour Managment

Utilisation of Behaviour Strategies to manage common Behavioural Challenges

Behaviour Managment
It is reassuring to hear that The Department for Education are seeking to improve the available evidence and understand how they can improve the experiences of all children and young people in school. They also want to know how schools create a culture where all pupils and staff feel safe, wanted and welcomed and can reach their full potential.

Guidance will be published later this year, please click the link for the open consultation.
